In
1934 the Colombian branch is constituted
under the name " Automatic Electric"
In 1958 it became part of the General
Telephone and Electronics " GTE
", introducing in Colombia the
first automatic communication equipments,
reaching a dominant position in the
telephony area.
In 1969 the first production line
of fluorescent products was imported.
In the early 80's three new production
lines were imported to manufacture
incandescent bulbs.
In 1993, GTE sold the operations of
SYLVANIA to a group of European investors,
which created the Group S.L.I. (SYLVANIA
LIGHTING INTERNATIONAL).
SYLVANIA consolidated as the leader
in the production and commercialization
of fluorescent products nation wide.
In 1998 an infrastructure was implemented
to attend Self-Service stores and
Supermarkets.
In 1999 the group Sylvania Lighting
International acquired Topluz in Colombia,
one of the most modern illumination
products manufacturing plants in Latin
America that has modern machinery
of American and European technology,
for the production of incandescent
and fluorescent lamps, and its own
glass and components plant. |
